Thoughts on Terrorism?

I'm currently working on a sociology paper and thought it would do good to hear some input from the current generations.

Paper topic: "Terrorism has never been a problem in the United States until 2001 when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon"

What are your thoughts or reactions to this statement or to terrorism in general? What do you think should be done?

These thoughts may be used in my paper with proper citing, so I may contact you for those purposes.

What's your professor's name? I had him too. I hated that paper. I stressed on it, did it the night before in 3 hours on a topic I still don't understand, and managed an 89. I truly don't think he reads them. Haha.

Ahhh yes. That was the only class I truly hated.
I did the topic about the ruling class being greedy.. something like that. Haha.

I graduated last year with a degree in Sociology and English and I still have nightmares about Barber. I'm so sorry you have to deal with him.

I'm not certain what the deal is, I find him rather tolerable. He is a little hard to bear when he projects loudly at times. Otherwise the class with him is rather easy.

I'm not sure I agree with the premise of your paper. The World Trade Center bombing in 1993 comes to mind first, but then Pearl Harbor as well, the USS Cole in the mid-nineties, the embassies in Africa around the same time. But I'm not a current student, so maybe I'm not who you need to hear from.

I probably should have clarified with the topic a little more. That was the topic given and I'm to either agree or disagree. I'm disagreeing with the topic.
It doesn't matter if you're a current student or not. I'm open-ended to anyone's views on the matter. Thanks for your opinions

Oh, then no wonder you're getting all the "what a jerk professor" comment :) Yeah, that's a crappy premise. "Never"?!

Wait, wasn't there something about the Marines in Beirut around 1982 too? Yeah, I'm old (I was in high school in 1993).

Jeez, even just the 1993 WTC bombing negates the topic. And the examples I pulled out of the age-addled recesses of my brain are just that, I haven't looked them up for veracity.

I'm glad I read the comments first - and I'm glad that you're disagreeing.

I think you can have a really great section in your paper dealing with the start of the country: the Boston Tea party was a great example of a terrorist action (at the time, we were under British rule - so, technically, it was anti-government terrorism).

Well, technically, I guess it wasn't a "problem" - what a poorly worded prompt. Everyone has given you great ideas so far - I definitely think you can argue that terrorism has been a problem since the beginning but, thanks to today's media - what with the emotional images and the anti-Muslim propaganda - made "9/11" this insane household name in a way that "World Trade Center" never would be.. .

If it were me - because I'm such a hippie - I'd talk about the eco-terrorism that the American culture has committed as a whole against the planet ;)

Does anyone know if Flagler offers chemistry/anatomy classes?
